Coal Mining near my favorite park Bryce National Park

I have been to Bryce National park a few times in 2005 and 2008 and I loved it. I want to share some of my old photos to show what a beautiful park it is.  I am hoping some of my blog readers will also click on the link and send their own letter. The beauty of this park and Southwestern Utah should be protected and preserved.

I hate to see this gorgeous park ruined with dirty air, coal mining trucks and the natural scenery into and around this beautiful place.

Thanks for stopping by my post.

Noonsack Falls

The Nooksack Falls is located a short distance off of the scenic Mt Baker Hwy. The Nooksack river flows thru a narrow valley and drops 88ft into the rocky river canyon.

Leaving Stehekin

On the last day at Stehekin we had just enough time to take the shuttle to the Rainbow Falls before we had to take the Lady Express back to Chelan. It was a one hour tour to the waterfalls and a stop at a one room school in Stehekin.  The weather was beautiful and a great day for our boat ride back to our car.

One room schoolhouse for Stehekin, it was in use until recently they built a more modern schoolhouse.

Lady Express leaving Stehekin, the skies were looking beautiful on our boat ride back to Chelan.

People riding jet skiis were having fun with the waves that were created from our Lady express boat.

After arriving back in the city of Chelan we hopped in our rental car and took off for our next stop along the Cascade Loop in the city of Leavenworth. You can see some of my Leavenworth photos here: http://viewingnaturewitheileen.blogspot.com/2010/09/leavenworth.html

Casselman River Bridge and State park

Last weekend, hubby and I took a short trip to western Maryland. The Casselman River Bridge and state park was one of our stops. The Casselman bridge is a national historic landmark built in 1813.
It was at one time the largest single span stone arch in the England and one of the first major bridge on the national road  US Route 40 which was known as a East-West England highway. Now we have the faster Rt 70 and the old Rt 40 is a slow and more scenic route.

A view of the river towards Rt 68

We saw lots of these spotted fish in the Cassleman River, anyone know what kind they are?

We finished our day at the nearby Penn Alps Restaurant and tried some of the wonderful their Mennonite food. I had a their Asian Chicken Salad with the White House dressing. Wow, was it ever delicious. So good I had to bring home a bottle of the dressing. After dinner we checked out the Artisan village and the House of Yoder. My favorite part was visiting Gary Yoder and his amazing bird carvings. Gary Yoder's bird carvings are in collections around the world and I was happy to meet him and watch him do some carving. If you happen to be in the area I would say this place is well worth a stop.

I am link up with Outdoor Wednesday thanks to Susan the host and  2 sweetnsaxy's Watery Wednesday.

Thanks to both of these gals for these fun memes and thanks for stopping by to see my post.

San Juan first stop on our cruise in July

This past July we took a cruise out of Baltimore, above is a shot of the bay after we went under the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. Our ports of call were San Juan, St Thomas, Samana  and Labadee.  The weather was great cruising down to San Juan but the weather in the harbor of San Juan was what I would call moody. There was a storm while we were trying to dock, so it took a while.

These are some shots from our ship.

A lot of colorful houses on the hillside.

The rain did stop in time for our tour of the city. This is a scene from a tour of the city, we made a quick stop at Fort San Cristobal. We had some great views of the city from the highest part of the fort. This fort is actually a National park and we were able to use our annual park pass.

The fort on the hill. There is iguana sitting in the grass. Can you see it?

A closeup of the iguana or maybe it is something else, there seemed to be lots of them here. I am posting a few for my camera critters this week. They were crawling all over the fort walls.

Back to our ship and on to our next port of St Thomas
